So I've got this really stubborn hair and guess what its a real b**** when it comes to using any styling product on it and its really thick and strong sort of like Asian hair and it would usually not hold its shape for anytime longer than around 1 or 2 hours. So naturally I wondered what the strongest holding wax or clay or pomade in the world is desperately wanting to use that product because nothing else worked for me it was so frustrating when right out of the shower my head would be super sexy after sometime outside it would just weigh itself down like an anvil being dropped on someone's head.
Yeah it sucked! So I turned to uncle Google, I took to the internet and searched high and low on sites like eBay Amazon and so on for numerous reviews and ratings in my quest to find out the strongest holding Ultra firm clay/wax in the world. But soon enough I started to notice something interesting which was that most of the products had the labels 'Ultra strong hold' or 'Ultra firm hold' 'Concrete hold' or 'Super stronghold' and nearly all of them were rated by the reviewers as being either good or excellent with no real comparison between products.
For example, some would say that the Hanz de Fuko claymation had the strongest hold ever but another reviewer reviewing something like TiGi Bed Head would write "this product has the best hold ever" so as you can imagine it was a real dilemma and there was no clear-cut winner.
There was no choice, so what I did was I ordered nearly all of these products and tried them on in an attempt to pit them against each other :

Needless to say, this bore no fruits as all of them disappointed but soon enough something else hit me and it was the Eureka moment that I was waiting for - I started searching for some DIY homemade wax solutions and came across numerous blogs outlining the basics of homemade wax preparation. I thought to myself, 'hey why not just give this thing a shot I mean it doesn't hurt to try right and if it goes wrong I've got nothing to lose' because these were very very cheap solutions.
The first time that I made some of my own they were okay but not that good - satisfactory but not excellent - so I decided to do some experimenting of my own because I wanted to try find out the wax with the strongest hold in the world and that was when I stumbled upon the magical recipe with the perfect ratio and frankly it blew me away!
This homemade solution vastly outperformed all other products on the list when it came to holding power and the best part is that this product is totally organic which means no toxic materials on your hair doing damage and messing with your head. Furthermore this can be easily worn and easily washed away with some shampoo and guess what? It held my hair up much longer and firmer than any other product. It was perfectly mouldable throughout the day and some hairspray would be a match made in heaven. Oh and did I forget to mention that this product also lasts a lifetime but costs a fraction of the heavyweights?
So without further ado here's the recipe for you to try it out yourself but always remember to always use a hair dryer before you apply the product! :

So without further ado here's the recipe for you to try it out yourself but always remember to always use a hair dryer before you apply the product! :
INGREDIENTS
- 3 Tbsp. beeswax
- 1 Tbsp. Shea butter (you can substitute this with unrefined coconut oil if you like, but shea butter is less greasy)
- 1 Tbsp. jojoba oil (you can use almost any other carrier oil here, such as olive, almond, apricot kernel, or even coconut oil.)
- 1 Tbsp. arrowroot powder or non-gmo corn starch (optional, takes some of the grease out from the oils. If you like a little bit of glossy shine then don't worry about this option.)
- 2 vitamin E pills (optional)
**This may be too hard to apply if the temperature is too cold, if so, heat using a hairdryer then apply or change increase the amount of Shea Butter whilst keeping the beeswax in the same amount.
DIRECTIONS
- In a double boiler, (I usually use a pyrex bowl in a sauce pan of boiling water as my makeshift double boiler) melt the beeswax and shea butter, stirring every so often.
- When the beeswax and shea butter is melted, allow to sit on heat for 20 minutes to process the shea butter.
- Mix together arrowroot powder and jojoba oil in a small bowl, until arrowroot is dissolved into the oil. If using Vitamin E to lengthen the shelf life of the pomade, poke the vitamin E pills squeezing the contents into the bowl and let cool until hardened.
- Remove shea/wax mixture from heat, and add arrowroot/jojoba oil mixture.
- Using your hand mixer, blend the hair pomade until it begins to turn into a pudding/taffy like texture. (It shouldn't take too long, since there is a decent amount of beeswax in the recipe!)
- Scoop into your designated container and store in a cool dark place.
- Use only a small pea sized amount on hair. A little goes a long way!
